DAY 124 - DAY ONE HUNDRED SIXTEEN ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

Before dinner last evening, Eric and Kara came to our room for a bon voyage toast and also for some canapés.  We are so very happy to have them on board Crystal Serenity with us.

Afterwards, we dined at the Prego Specialty Restaurant.  We originally made reservations for the four of us for 7:30 PM, but then after learning the other day that there would be a lifeboat drill at 7:45 PM and knowing we had a tour today we moved the reservations up to 6:00 PM so that we could enjoy dinner before the start of the drill.

We each enjoyed one half of the Ravioli Appetizer and then we each had salads.

We both had the same entree which was the additional Sea Bass Special.  It was very tasty and the presentation was quite nice.

Eric and Kara each had different appetizers and different entrees and we all enjoyed the food.  It was not very crowded but we understood that following the lifeboat drill that it would be much more crowded so it worked out nicely that we had an early dinner.

We did not need to attend the lifeboat drill, but Eric and Kara and all embarking guests needed to attend the drill.  A few minutes before 8:00 PM we set sail for Sorrento.

We slept well as Serenity sailed to our next port of call in Sorrento where we will enjoy two days in port with an overnight.  This is a tender port so we are anchored.

Keith was up first and as always read, wrote and then worked out at the Fitness Center.  We both went on a short walk inside the ship.

We asked Rao to bring breakfast and hour earlier than usual since we had a morning tour.  Rao also had a boxed lunch prepared for the four of us.

This private tour included the towns of Ravello, Positano. Almalfi and the Amalfi Coast with stops at one additional town.

Our driver/guide was Paolo and he was wonderful.  He lives in one of the areas of Sorrento.  He spoke English very well, has a great grasp of history, has a passion for giving tours and was also a very safe and courteous driver.  Along the way we stopped to take photos and we also stopped and walked at three different towns.  When we walked Paolo let us walk on our own and we had set places to meet.

We also took a boxed lunch with us and ate in a beautiful garden area in Ravello which offered breathtaking views of the town and the coastline.    It was a great day and the views were great along with the weather.  This is one of the prettiest areas of the world.

Each town had one large church and several smaller ones.

We ate our lunch outside at a garden with beautiful views of the coast line.  We each had turkey sandwiches, potato chips for Eric and Kara and grapes for everyone.

About 45 minutes before we arrived back to town, Keith asked Paolo about Pizza.  Paolo gave us some additional recommendations about where we can eat tomorrow.  Keith also asked him what type of pizza he likes.  With respect to many of the foreigners he likes the crust very thin.  For us, that is the way we grew up with it when we each grew up in New York.  He likes margarita pizza, but rather than the sauce he prefer the sweetness from cherry tomatoes.  He also told us about other toppings he prefers including pumpkin and even pears along with other items such as eggplant.

Anne Marie's Great Grandparents on her Father's side were Italian and lived somewhere in this region.

When we arrived back to Sorrento to pick up the tender back to the ship Paolo gave each couple a gift from the owner of the company we used which was a bottle of Il Limoncello.

When we arrived back to the ship, Keith and Eric played Paddle Tennis for about an hour and had a lot of fun.  It was Eric's first time playing it since January of 2010 when Eric, Gui, Jennifer, Kara and Keith played it for the first time.
This evening we will dine at the Crystal Dining Room.

It was a wonderful day.
