DAY 10 - DAY TWO ON BOARD THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

A LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY

FIRST FULL DAY ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY✔ SPIN CLASS ✔  CAPTAIN'S WELCOME ON-BOARD RECEPTION AND BLACK TIE OPTIONAL NIGHT ✔

After we posted yesterday, our luggage started to arrive and within thirty minutes all of it was delivered to our room.  We were very happy to see it.  Before dinner we unpacked half of it.

We had a visitor to our room, Jamie Brown, who works at the Los Angeles Headquarters responsible for several areas including quality assurance and the on board vendors.  We have known Jamie for several years including the time that she was on the ship as the Crystal Society Hostess and then as the On-Board Cruise Consultant.  It was so nice to see Jamie.

We then met our dear friends Ricki and David for dinner and we dined at Silk Road.  We had a terrific time with them.

Our waiter for the evening, was Albert who we have known for several years.  He knows us so well that he could order our meal for us.  He pre-ordrered several items for the table.

He first pre-ordered a trio of Nobu Sashimi Specials.  Each one was served with a delectable sauce and they were each very tasty.

Albert also pre-ordered us a Lobster Tempura.  It was very tasty and the presentation was superb.

Each couple ordered their own sushi and sashimi and this is what the two of us had.  It was a mixture of sashimi and sushi rolls.

Keith enjoyed a sushi roll known as a Dragon Roll as often it is presented like a dragon.  It is cooked eel with rice that has an avocado roll.

We both had a mushroom salad.  The mushrooms are warm and the sauce is very tasty.

Anne Marie had the Nobu Box for her entree which is a trio or if you will a tasting of three entrees.  Keith had the salmon which is shown below.

This was Tuna Sashimi that Ricki and David shared.

The food was excellent as was the conversation.  We could have stayed all night with Ricki and David but they needed to be off the ship by 8:00 PM and we needed to be at the Life Boat Drill at 8:00 PM.

We both attended the life boat drill.  We take it quite seriously as do most of our fellow guests.  Following the drill, we went back to our room to unpack some more.  We didn't think we would do it but we actually unpacked all of our luggage.  Over the next couple of days we will move some items around to maximize storage of everything.

The seas were quite calm and after we left Miami it was almost as if we were still in port.

Keith awoke early and started his day the way he will do which was to go to the Fitness Center for an early morning workout on the Elliptical Machine.  He just had to walk up a couple of flights of steps.

This is the area where the Elliptical Machines are located and Keith uses the one on the left hand side.

Since the last time we were on the Serenity, new stand alone weights have been purchased to replace the previous ones.

This is a view of some of the weight lifting equipment.

This is the view of the treadmills.

While he was working out he also was able to wash a good portion of our laundry from our pre-cruise stay in Miami.

Afterwards, he went back to the room and changed and then had coffee at the Lido Cafe.

We will take many more photos over the coming days and right now we are using just a simple point and shoot camera but will start using our DLSR cameras in a few days.

The Lido Cafe and most of the Lido Deck received a major makeover in the recent dry dock of the Crystal Serenity.  To say it is stunning is an understatement.  It is more beautiful than even the photos we had previously seen looked.  The color scheme, lighting, new layout and new furniture just is absolutely beautiful.

This is where Keith sat to have some coffee.  The regular dishes were available but Keith just took a couple of the carry out cups.

A short while later, Keith brought back some coffee to the room for Anne Marie and then Anne Marie went out on the Promenade Deck for her first walk since we boarded the Serenity.

Vincente brought our breakfast to the room at 8:00 AM.  Anne Marie had cereal and Keith had oatmeal and we had some fruit.

Shortly after breakfast, Keith attend the spin (indoor cycling class). At home, Keith spins several days a week and when it is offered by Crystal Cruises he enjoys taking the classes.

This was probably the most challenging of the indoor cycling classes that Keith has taken on the Serenity and all of the participants except for one takes cycling classes regularly.

The instructor for the Class was Fitness Director Michael, from Sydney, Australia.  He teaches all of the Spin Classes and says it is his favorite class to teach followed by Boot Camp.

After the Class Keith changed and then met Anne Marie downstairs and we spoke with with Crystal Society Hostess Jaque Brown about a few items.  Hotel Director, Josef, also stopped by and we chatted with him for a couple of minutes.

Afterwards, Anne Marie went back to the room to continue sorting items and Keith met with the Manager of Shore Excursions, Daniel, to go over some excursions for later in the cruise and he also met with someone in the Photo Department.  While he was speaking with a fellow guest, Cruise Director, Gary Hunter, stopped by and Keith introduced Gary to the guest who was on their very first Crystal Cruise and they all chatted for quite awhile.

As we do on most days, for lunch we went to the Lido Cafe where we each made a salad entree.

Afterwards, Anne Marie walked for an hour on the Promenade Deck and pretty much finished organizing the room. Keith played Paddle Tennis for almost two hours.  There is a passenger he played with last year on this single voyage and he also played with some other people.  Although last playing end of March, 2013 he felt comfortable playing again. Keith also met up later with good friend Bob

This evening we will be dining in the Crystal Dining Room and the evening attire is Black Tie Optional.  Guests have a choice of dressing in either formal attire or Elegant Casual (Informal) Attire. After dinner we plan to attend the Captain's Welcome Reception.

  3. Keith,
Your athletic shoes (day 10) appear to give you an unfair advantage in any competition as they would blind your opponents! Or are they color coordinated for a journey down the Yellow Brick Road? :). Another great blog
