DAY 20 - DAY TWELVE ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

We enjoyed a wonderful night on the ship.

Before dinner we stopped by the photo studio to look at some photos we had taken and we also had our photo taken there.

We dined at Prego last evening with Dave and Rocky who we first met on board the Crystal Serenity a couple of years ago.  We had a great time at dinner with lots of good food and lots of good conversation.  We dined for over two hours.

Our waiter for the evening was Costa who has taken care of us over the last few years at Prego.  This was the first time we had Costa, since boarding the ship, yet he remembered all of the items that we enjoy including Keith's salad and the dressing her prefers, the types of vegetables we enjoy and even the which choice of bread we like.

We began our meal with an appetizer size of one of the additional entrees which was a pasta.  It was very tasty and certainly very rich.  On most nights there is an additional pasta and either an additional seafood or beef (usually seafood) entree.  You can alway order the additional pasta or one of the regular pasta entrees in a small size to enjoy as an appetizer which is exactly what we did.

For our next course we each had a salad.  Keith had a salad that they refer to as "Keith's" salad and Anne Marie had the Caesar Salad.

For our entree, all four of us had the seafood entree.  The fish was in the same family as the Chilean Sea Bass. Costa referred to the fish as a cousin of the Sea Bass.  We enjoyed the fish and found it to be very tasty and cooked perfectly.  The entree was accompanied with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables,

Keith also had a side order of grilled vegetables.

Keith had a fruit plate for his dessert and Anne Marie had blueberries and Dave ordered the soufflé.  When the senior waiter first comes to the table and discussed the additional items he/she will mention the soufflé and also mention that the soufflé should be ordered at the time the entire meal is ordered to provide the chef with sufficient time to prepare it.

In general, all food is cooked to order at Prego.

After dinner, the two of us went to a relative new show called iLuminate: The Tourist and this was indeed the first tim we saw it.  It is a unique show in that it uses a new and unique brand of technology to bring to life each character.   The "Tourist" magically transports himself from place to place in hopes of returning to where he started.  The show is only thirty minutes in length and there was essentially a full house.  Two shows were presented, with the first one beginning at 8:30 PM and the second starting  at 10:30 PM.  It was a unique show, from the typical production show and we were happy to have the opportunity to see it.

The good news is that for the second time of this voyage we set the time back by one hour before going to sleep.  We will do this again tonight.

We slept very well last evening as we are now sailing towards the Port Of San Pedro which serves the Los Angeles area.  Including today, we have two consecutive days at sea before we arrive to this port.  This will end this voyage and begin the start of the 2014 World Cruise.

Keith was up early and back to the Fitness Center for another early workout on the Elliptical Machine.    With the time zone change he was able to catch some of the news shows that he normally watches at home along with one lecture that has been pre-recorded.

After his workout he stopped by the Lido Cafe for coffee and he read and wrote over the next hour.  He brought back coffee to the room for Anne Marie.

Anne Marie also walked for one hour before it was time to have breakfast in our room.  The seas were somewhat rougher starting about an hour before and after she walked so she walked inside the ship.

Spin Classes have been offered on every day we have had at sea throughout this cruise and today was no exception as Keith had Spin Class at 8:30 AM.  The usual cast of characters were there and Fitness Director, Michael, let our class.  It was a great workout and we took our heart rates up and down several times during the class.  When Anne Marie took the photos we were spinning at 100% effort so the legs look a little blurry.  We have one last Spin Class tomorrow right before this voyage comes to an end.

After Keith changed from the class he met Anne Marie at the Crystal Cove and we ended up chatting with quite a few guests and crew.

This morning there were two lectures.  A highlight was a lecture given by Celebrity Lecturer James Bradley who many of you might know as he is the author of the best selling book, Flags of Our Father.  We first heard James Bradley give a talk in 2010 on board the Serenity.  Marking his talk, this evening the movie Flags of Our Fathers will be shown twice in the Hollywood Theatre.

We had lunch at the Lido Cafe.  As we do when we eat there we each make ourselves a nice Salad Entree.

During the afternoon, Keith played Paddle Tennis with many of the regulars he has been playing with throughout this voyage.  Anne Marie walked outside for an hour and then she worked on needle point, and also sat outside.  Keith met up with good friend Bob later in the afternoon.

Tonight is the final Black Tie Optional night on this first leg of the cruise before the World Cruise begins.  The evening also includes the Captain's Farewell Party and also a Production Show that we really enjoy called Across The Pond or for us the British Invasion of the 1960's including songs from Keith's favorite all-time band The Beatles.

TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY............

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain.  It’s not something you learn in school.  But if you haven’t learned this meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.” - Muhammed Ali.
