DAY 16 - DAY EIGHT ON BOARD THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

A LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY

AT SEA ON OUR WAY TO HUATULCO MEXICO✔ INDOOR CYCLING GRAND GALA BUFFET✔

Before dinner last evening we listened to Scott Mitchel play the piano in the Crystal Cove.  The Cove was very busy with many guests enjoying a pre-dinner drink.

Afterwards, we were back in the Crystal Dining Room for dinner.

The theme for the dinner was the French Dinner.  This menu featured a nice array of French Cuisine.

We began our meal with Champagne that Sommelier, Christian, selected for us.

Our first course was a salad and both of us enjoyed the standing order salad which Keith has most evenings.

For our entree we both had the Baked Fillet of White Seabass.  We ordered the Lighter Side SeaBass as it was prepared fairly simply.  It was absolutely delicious as it was very moist and also very tasty.

We enjoyed a French Chardonnay which our Sommelier selected for us and it was very light and went very well with the Seabass.

For dessert, Keith had mixed berries and it was not your normal size bowl of mixed berries.  It was in a cereal bowl.

Anne Marie had the sugar free Vanilla Profiteroles which she enjoyed.

Later in the evening we attended the Crystal Society Reception.  Once you sail with Crystal Cruises one time you become a member of the Crystal Society.  This reception provides another nice opportunity to socialize with fellow guests and many members of the crew.  Selected guests are recognized for achieving major milestones based on the number of cruises they have completed by having their names and associated milestone mentioned by Jaque Brown who is the Crystal Society Hostess.

Two couples and one solo guest celebrating a significant number of cruises were introduced. .  We were one of those guests as this cruise represents our 50th cruise with Crystal Cruises.  Jaque read a short biography of us, including our home town, when we first sailed Crystal, where we live, and what we enjoy most about sailing with Crystal (the crew and what we call the Crystal Family).  We were then called up to the front.  Captain Giske, Cruise Director Gary Hunter, Crystal Society and Hostess Jaque Brown, congratulate us and and Anne Marie was presented with a nice bouquets of flowers and Keith was presented with a boutonnière and we all posed together for a couple of photos.

There are 500 Crystal Society Members on this cruise and it was mentioned that there are close to 500,000 Crystal Society Members.

After the reception we took a couple of photos with Crystal Society Hostess Jaque Brown.  In a few days we will receive  photo taken of us as part of the recognition and we will post it to the Blog.

On the evening of January 14 there will be a special recognition diner for us and we will post more about that when we post on the 15th.
The production show titled Curtain Call was performed last night two different times with the first performance given shortly after the Crystal Society Reception ended.  This is a very popular show as it features many memorable songs from Broadway.

Good news when we returned to our cabin as we turned the clocks back one hour as we are sailing into a new time zone.

We slept very well last evening as we continued to sail to our next port of call.

We began today as we do most mornings on the ship.  Keith was back up to the Fitness Center for his daily morning workout on the Elliptical Machine and afterwards he went to the Lido Cafe for some coffee and to read and write.

Each morning when Keith arrives to the Lido Cafe it is still dark outside but by the time he leaves it becomes light.  This is a photo of the sun rising.  This was a day when Keith wishes that he had his Nikon DSLR with a nice lens with him instead of in the room so this one was taken with a Lumix point and shoot camera.

A short while later Anne Marie walked on her first of two walks for the day and walked for one hour.  Shortly after Anne Marie returned to the room, we had breakfast in our room thanks to Vincente.

After Breakfast, Keith attended another Spin Class.  There have been more Spin Classes offered on this voyage than all the previous voyages that we have taken before.  It was another challenging workout led by Fitness Director Michael.  Believe it or not as much as Keith Spins on land even he wondered for a moment or two where Keith even wondered if he could keep the pace for the entire class.  As it turned out, Michael singled out Keith in class today as having the most intense workout of anyone else.

You can get strong legs from Spinning.

Between our day transiting the Panama Canal and these two other sea days, the ship has definitely been the destination with so many enrichment and other activities that have been offered each of these three days.  There is something for everyone.

There were two lectures in the morning.  This included one by Destination Lectures Dr. Anthony Aveni who spoke about our upcoming port of calls in both Huatulco and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Dr. Robert Freedman who spoke about Russia under Putin.

Although we had lunch at the Lido Cafe lunch today also featured the Grand Gala Buffet which offers a wide array of lunch items that are displayed in the Crystal Cove area outside the Crystal Dining Room.

These items are a work of art and the effort that goes into creating each item and then presenting them is truly amazing.

When we got back to the room, there was a nice photo of us taken by the Manager of the Photo Studio last evening at the Crystal Society Recognition Event.  They will be placing this photo and one from tomorrow evening's milestone recognition dinner on a thumb drive for us which we will get when this first voyage comes to an end so we can post them on our Blog in a few days.

The bouquet of flowers that Anne Marie received last evening was also delivered to our room in a vase.

In the afternoon, Keith was back playing Paddle Tennis while Anne Marie walked for one hour on the Promenade Deck.    Keith also met up with good friend Bob.  The weather was great and the seas were relatively calm.

This evening we are back at the Crystal Dining Room for dinner.
