DAY 37 - DAY TWENTY- NINE ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

Before dinner we sat in the Crystal Cove with good friends John and Linda.

We were back at the Crystal Dining Room last evening, after being away for two nights.  It was great to be back at our table.  It was fairly quiet in the dining room as many guests were dining at one of the specialty restaurants.

We began our dinner with salads.  Keith had his standing order salad and Anne Marie had a Red and Green Caesar Salad.

There was a nice choice of entrees.

Keith had the the Baked Red Snapper.  It was accompanied with Thyme, Tomatoes and Olives, Grilled Eggplant, Baby Fennel, Pearl and Cous Cous.

Anne Marie had the Lobster Tail.  It was accompanied with rice and snow peas.

We also had side orders of Grill Onions (Keith), peas and white asparagus.

Sommelier Javier took good care of us.  We had a Tuscany Chardonnay and an Italian Red Wine which he decanted for us.

For dessert, Anne Marie ordered the Sugar Free Coffee Cheesecake and Keith had his mixed berries.

The evening entertainment was absolutely wonderful and included a very well done Variety show featuring dancing by Curtis & Beverly who were accompanied by The Astoria Strings and also vocalists Julia Goretsky & Jonathan Hawkins and the Galaxy Orchestra.  Comedy Ventriloquist Mark Merchant performed and had everyone in stitches with his performance and Vocalist Jamila who has been a member of the 5th Dimension dazzled the audience with her vocals.

We slept very well last evening as we sailed to Agana, Guam.

Keith was up early and enjoyed his workout in the Fitness Center.  As he does each and every morning he went to the Lido Cafe for coffee.  He spoke with Lido Deck Stewards Ross, Benjamin, Max, Liebert and Ross as he often does.  Each of them either sees Keith when he arrives or makes a point to stop by the table that Keith sits at to say hello and to see if he needs any assistance.  Right before Keith left, he smelled the nice aroma of breakfast pastries, sweet rolls and other items that came out of the ovens located towards the back of the Lido Cafe where Keith was seated.

He brought coffee back to the room for Anne Marie.  A short while later Anne Marie walked for an hour.

A short while later, Rao brought breakfast to our room.

Although we are visiting a United States Port-Of-Call and we have not been on soil outside of the United States, each guest and crew member had to go through immigration.  With Passport and Guam Immigration Form in hand we went to the Galaxy Theatre to meet with a local representative to clear immigration.

On our way back from immigration, we saw that they had the table set up to check on guests boarding today.  About 50 guests are boarding and will stay on until Yokohama, Japan.

While it is Sunday in the United States it is Monday in Guam and due to the time zone difference the Super Bowl began at around 9:30 AM local time.  Since we have other tours coming up and we had wanted to see the Super Bowl we stayed on the ship.  We made our way over to the the Stardust Lounge where the Super Bowl was being shown on the full screen Television.  At the same time the Super Bowl was shown on all of the stateroom Televisions.  We were rooting for the Denver Broncos as we enjoy Peyton Manning.  As all of you know, it certainly was a one sided game and not in Denver's favor.  Oh well!

With the early start to the Super Bowl, waffles & pastries were served starting at 9:00 and later in the day hotdogs, chicken wings and sandwiches were available.

A chef making Waffles.

The Super Bowl feed we received was from Fox but it was delivered via ESPN. We did get the 30 minute pre-game show, the full Super Bowl and the halftime show.  However, commercials seemed to be from Australia.

The lounge had team logos and a few other decorations and some signs on the wall right outside the lounge.  These logos were inside the lounge.

We both wore our World Cruise shirts since they were Orange in honor of the Denver Broncos.

Right before half-time, Keith did go off the ship to touch land.  He was greeted by three locals who were giving each guest a Lei made out of shells rather than flowers.

Although we did not visit Agana, Guam we wanted to provide some information about this port for you.

The island of Guam is the westernmost unincorporated territory of the United States.  Magellan arrived here in 1521 and this led to people settling there.  More recently, Guam played a strategic role during World War II and, as such, numerous landmarks and memorials remain as a reminder of the WWII.

The architecture of many buildings on the island is Spanish representing its past.

We had lunch at the Lido Cafe and we each made a nice Salad Entree. Cruise Director Rick joined us and also later on Line Captain Shane sat with us as well.  The weather outside was gorgeous.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for one hour and also sat out to get some fresh air and sun.

Keith read, wrote and got in some additional exercise.

All in all it was a very fun day between a break from all the activities and the Super Bowl (although it was a blowout) and of course just being on the Crystal Serenity.
