DAY 46 - DAY THIRTY EIGHT ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY
We wanted to first thank those who have posted on the blog as well as others who have written to Keith. We also thank so many of our fellow guests who called our room yesterday to check up on Keith and also to thank so many of the crew members who checked up on Keith and also took good care of us.
We are also very thankful that when the event occurred that we had the overnight in port and that we were in Japan and in a relatively large city with good medical facilities. As they say in life, timing is everything.
We also wanted to once again thank everyone who assisted us that evening from the guest and former doctor who happened to be near the area where Keith first fainted to the ship's medical team who quickly were at our side to the members of the Crystal crew who assisted Anne Marie and the two of us, to the port personnel who carried Keith up and down the steps in the stretcher and to the Hospital Medical team.
We are also thankful that it turned out to be Keith's electrolytes and not something far more serious. Keith has mitro valve prolapse which is a skip of the heart beat so his EKG will not look normal so initial concerns were the possibility of something to do with the heart, including a possible heart infection. This is why it was so important that Keith be checked extensively at the hospital.
He's back.
We had dinner in our room last evening just so Keith could take it easy for the entire day. We ordered off the Crystal Dining Room menu as if we were in the dining room, and Rao brought us the meal course by course.
We began with salads.
For our entree, we each had the Roasted Fillet of Fresh Alaskan Salmon which was served over crushed potatoes & peas with slow roasted tomatoes & watercress sauce. We also ordered side orders of asparagus and peas. The salmon was very moist and tasty.
For dessert, Anne Marie had the sugar-free Hazelnut Vanilla Mousse and we shared some blueberries.
Keith even had dessert and had a Freshly Frozen Non-Fat Strawberry Yogurt.
We watched a movie that Anne Marie had selected at the library and just enjoyed a relaxing evening in our room.
The Serenity set sail at 10:00 PM for our next port of call in Osaka, Japan.
We did sleep well as we were catching up on our sleep from the night before.
Keith woke first but much later than normal and he took a day off from the Fitness Center. Boss's orders (Anne Marie) to avoid the Fitness Center. Instead, he went up to the Lido Cafe for some coffee and to read and write.
He brought coffee back to the room and we then both walked for an hour together. For most of the walk, we were with fellow guest and friend Elaine and then after Elaine left we walked a little more. We walked inside the ship as it was very cold outside.
A short while after we arrived back to the room, Rao brought us breakfast and we enjoyed that in our room. Since today is a sea day we watched the Daily Morning Show with Cruise Director Rick Spath and World Cruise Hostess Stacey Huston. During the show Stacey shared with us her experience from one of the days we were in Yokohama. Cruise Director Rick mentioned that they were close to narrowing down which former Olympian(s) would be on the ship for the segment when the World Games are held.
Keith passed on the indoor Spin Class but will get back to this as soon as he is 100%. Instead, he attend Rap With The Rabbi. Most years we have attended the Rap With Rabbi Morrie, however, this year many of the Spin Classes have conflicted with this program so we have been unable to attend. While the discussion does related to Judaism guests from other faiths do attend as does Reverend Ed and his wife Ruth. Today, we analyzed a portion of text from the Old Testament. It was quite interesting and there were about 35 people in attendance.
At the same time, Anne Marie had her personal training class with Fitness Director, Scott.
There were two lectures in the morning. The first lecture was given by Destination Lecturer Peter Smith and appropriately covered our next port of call in Osaka. The second lecture was given by World Affairs Lecturer Sir Stephen Brown and was about the rebuilding of Japan.
At Noon, Keith attended Team Trivia and this was the first game of this second segment of the World Cruise. This segment will only have three sea days and thus three Team Trivia games. We got 11 of 15 questions correct which places us in third place. A couple of them that we got wrong that we should have gotten right was where were the Winter Olympic Games held in 2006 and how may positive areas are there on one side of a shuffleboard court. As they say, better luck next time.
We enjoyed lunch which we had in our room just to continue to take it easy. We each had a Cobb Salad.
Later we each walked together inside the ship for another hour.
Anne Marie attended Yoga in the afternoon. Yoga is given both in the morning by Maria and Joe Kita and then in the afternoon by Maria.
Throughout the day many guest and crew members came by as they saw the two of us or one of us by ourselves to ask about Keith and to send their warm wishes. A few of the women have said they will be on the outlook for Keith so that he doesn't overdo it. LOL. As Anne Marie says there will be eyes all over the ship watching out for Keith.
This afternoon we are watching a movie that we had gotten from the library in our room in the afternoon so that Keith could continue to get some rest.
This evening is the Captain's Welcome Party and is also Black Tie Optional. We will be dining with dear friends Bob and Glo at Silk Road and will post more about this tomorrow.

I am so relieved that Keith is on the mend and Anne Marie will have so much support in keeping him "in-line" and healthy. Your post yesterday came as quite a shock so I was eager to read the update this morning.
ReplyDeleteKeep enjoying your cruise as I am sure you will. Too bad about Kyoto as I was eager to ready your blog about it but another time perhaps. More important things on the itinerary!
It was -26 as I left for work today and we have over 10 feet of snow....unbelievable. Your blog is my daily escape!

Glad to see and hear you are feeling better Keith. I had the same thing happen to me. I fainted on a HAL ship, and my wife helped me a great deal. And I now say it was probably tougher on her then me. So Anne Marie, I hope you are back to enjoying yourself! All the best.
