DAY 85 - DAY SEVENTY SEVEN ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

We had a great time on board the Serenity after we posted yesterday afternoon.

We began our evening as we normally do by sitting at the Crystal Plaza and enjoying the music of Pianist John Mentis.  Our Travel Specialist, Gerri,  joined us as well.  John also plays the piano at Team Trivia including question number 15 which usually involves naming the song he plays.  John also takes video that is used in the World Cruise Video and also takes video that is used in other videos produced by Crystal Cruises.  And if that is not enough, John also tunes all of the pianos on board the ship.

We then had dinner at the Crystal Dining Room with Gerri.

Dinner was terrific.  We both had salads and also Swordfish which was prepared butterfly style for us.  Food was great as was the service and we enjoyed a wonderful conversation with Gerri.  She is absolutely a gem.

After dinner we attended a cocktail party at friends Sandy and Michael's Penthouse.  They are in one of the four largest penthouses on the ship.  Somewhere around 35 people attended and interestingly enough we knew everyone.  Many are also long time Crystal Cruisers and World Cruisers.

After dinner we attended Dancing with the Crystal Stars with Curtis dancing with Elana the first assistant housekeeper and also with Jaque Crystal Society Hostess and Beverly dancing with Darko who is our Hair Stylist and also Colin who is the Avenue Saloon Pianist.    The show also featured others including Sarah and James who each danced and the lead male vocalist as well as Sarah who were the co-hosts of the program.  There were three judges; Ensemble Dancer Dimitri, iMovie Instructor Dina and Rabbi Morri.  Before each dance began a video was shown of their practices each having quite a bit of humor and following each performance the judges each gave comments and were quite funny.  At the end, there was a four way tie for first place which was a perfect way to end the contest.  They each deserved to be number one.

They were all great.  Keep in mind that some of them didn't know how to dance to any type of song before they learned their routines.  Congratulations to each of them.

After the show, we made it back to our room and a short while later we went to sleep.  We slept well and the seas were calmer than the night before.

Early morning followed the same routine as most mornings.  Keith was up first, read and wrote and made his way to the Lido Cafe for coffee.  He returned to the room and Anne Marie got ready and we both walked together for one hour.

This being the last of the sea days before we reach Durban, there was another Daily Morning Show which we watched as we ate our breakfast.

After breakfast, Keith made his way to the Fitness Center for another Spin Class.

We had a few seconds to hydrate before the track played.

After Anne Marie stopped by the class, she then sat in the Crystal Cove so our room could be cleaned by our Stewardess and she read and wrote and enjoyed several conversations with Officers and fellow Guests.  She also picked up our passports as we need them for tomorrows face to face immigration and we will likely need them for our Safari.

The enrichment program for today included 50+ activities.  There were three lectures.  Destination Lecturer Ken Rees spoke about the next two ports of call; Durban & Port Elizabeth.  He provided their history, along with recommendations on things to do at each port and at the surrounding areas.  Later in the morning Rob Caskie spoke about The Battle Of Isandlwana which took place on January 22 of 1879 which is known as the British Defeat and the Zulu Victory.  The final lecture was given in the afternoon by Bill Toone who spoke about two species getting very close to the edge of extinction.    We continue to watch the lectures on the television   and iPads.

Keith attended Team Trivia.  We didn't do well and went from one half point behind the first place team to several places down.  Keith and one other member will miss the next game which will be held the day after tomorrow when the ship is at sea due to the overland Safari's.

We enjoyed our usual type of lunch which was a salad entree.

In the afternoon, Keith played more Paddle Tennis while Anne Marie walked and also attended afternoon Yoga.

Keith met up with Bob later in the afternoon.

Before dinner this evening we will attend the final World Game medal ceremony and the closing ceremony of the World Games.  We will also be dining with dear friends Bob and Glo and Silk Road.
