DAY 108 - DAY ONE HUNDRED ONE ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

We wanted to begin with photos of Jaque Brown and Paul Jean Pfitzer.

Jaque is the Crystal Society Hostess.  She has many responsibilities including making sure that the milestone awards are assigned properly to each guest who has reached a particular milestone, scheduling of the special milestone dinners and making sure that any milestone gifts are given to the respective guest and this includes the second milestone which is a Crystal Society tote bag.  She ensures that invites are sent out for all of those in Crystal Society for the Crystal Society Reception and also that innovations go out to everyone who is attending special milestone dinners.  She   also is involved in providing tours to groups that come onto the ship for visits and a wide range of other activities.  Jaque has been Crystal Society Hostess since 2009.

Paula Jean is the Cruise Sales Consultant.  As such she takes care of all on board bookings and coordinates this with the guest and the reservation office in Los Angeles.  She also answers any and all questions that are raised to her by guests considering another cruise including questions about each ship, specific stateroom categories, and itineraries.  Paula Jean was recognized a few weeks ago for the length of time she has been with Crystal Cruises.  Before she assumed her current assignment a few years ago, she was the Crystal Society Hostess.

Our hats off to Jaque and Paula Jean.

Today marks our 100th day on board the Crystal Serenity.  In many ways it seems as though it was just yesterday that we boarded the Crystal Serenity on January 5.  We have had an absolutely wonderful time on the Serenity and there is still more to come.

Today also marks the last port of call that will be visited on this year's World Cruise until we reach our final destination in Southampton marking the conclusion of World Cruise 2014.

We slept very well last evening as we were sailing to Lisbon, Portugal.  Now that we are adjusted to the new time zone, Keith was up early and at his regular time and read, wrote and made it to the Fitness Center for a nice workout on the Elliptical Machine.  After stopping by the Lido Cafe for coffee, he brought some back for Anne Marie and then we took a nice long walk on the ship.  As we got ready to go into Lisbon, we had breakfast.

Right before we left the ship, Anne Marie walked out on the Verandah and she said welcome to civilization.  This is not a put down at all about the recent places we have visited but there is no question that Europe is much more orderly than some of the places we visited on the World Cruise. We had the same reaction arriving to Europe on the 2007, 2008 and 2010 World Cruises.

We originally had a private tour of Sintra planned for today but decided to cancel it as we were concerned we would be too rushed to get back to the ship.  After we got off the ship this morning we ran into Shore Excursion Manager, Daniel, and Assistant Shore Excursion Manager, Storm and asked them if they could price out a private excursion for us of Sintra since we will be back in Lisbon on the next voyage.  In fact, Daniel is going on Holiday after we arrive to Southampton and Storm will become the Manager while he is away so Storm will followup with us on this.

We have been to Lisbon on several past cruises and have toured Lisbon before and also walked it by foot.  It is a great city to just walk around and today the weather was absolutely lovely.  It was nicer than we expected.  It also was not very crowded.  We were off the ship as soon as we were cleared around 8:15 AM and we walked for several hours before returning to the ship for lunch.  We walked a very good distance to a beautiful memorial area.  On our way back we walked on many side streets and just enjoyed the scenery and all that was around us. We walked into several bakeries to look at the cakes, breads and other goodies and we just browsed other places.  Anne Marie has a cork purse that she got in the United States to match shoes and it is made in Lisbon so we walked into a couple of stores that sell cork purses and other accessories.

Lisbon has so many nice statues as you walk around and about the city.

We took this photo to give you some perspective of the length of them gardens.  We had walked from the ship all the way up to this area which was quite a distance. What you can't see in the photo is the many city blocks we walked just to get to that statue that you see towards the back of these gardens.

There were several outdoor cafes and restaurants and sometimes music playing.

The Mosaic Tile that is a big part of Portugal. Also you see the influence in places such as the older portion of cities such as Rio where we took photos of the Mosaic during last years World Cruise which stopped in Rio.

We passed many places selling baked goods and browsed a couple of these stores.  In some cases you can purchase an item and stand at a counter as you enjoy the baked good with possibly some coffee.

Many cities around the world including our own country have just wonderful architecture and that is the case in Lisbon.

We enjoyed lunch back on the ship at the Lido Cafe and then we went back out for another long walk.

We visited a Church.

We also visited a Cathedral.

There are instances where Lisbon has some similarities with San Francisco.  For example, there is the Trolley Car.  There is also a bridge that looks like the Golden Gate Bridge.  There are also rolling hills and lots of charm about this city.

After walking up various hills we enjoyed some dramatic views.

A view of the Crystal Serenity from one of those high hills.

This was an unusual looking tree.

We also were able to do Face Time with our Daughter, Jennifer, and Grand Son, Andre.

As we waked the number of restaurants with seating not only indoors but also outdoors was incredible.

During both of our walks we ran into some members of the crew as well as some fellow guests.

All in all it was an incredible day.  It was nice to get back to Europe and we had absolutely wonderful weather.

This evening we will be dining with dear friends Bob and Glo at Silk Road.

TODAY'S THOUGHT OF THE DAY….

"On this and each of the World Cruises we have taken we have made memories which we will carry with us for the rest of our lives."

Keith & Anne Marie
