DAY 109 - DAY ONE HUNDRED TWO ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

Last evening we dined at Silk Road with our dear friends Bob and Glo.  It was a great dinner with lots of wonderful conversation, delicious cuisine and wonderful service along with the terrific ambience of the Silk Road dining venue.

Anthony had pre-ordered several items for us including various appetizers, a large plate of sushi and sashimi and even lobster tempura, which followed.  We only had to order our entrée and dessert.  For our entrée,  all four of us had the Hot Soba Noodle’s with soup and Keith had some fruit for dessert while Anne Marie had  a small dish of ice cream.

All in all it was just a wonderful dinner and we were glad to enjoy this meal with our dear friends.

After the dinner, we went to the second of the two shows which was performed by musical humorist Dale Gonyea with the Galaxy Orchestra.  We have seen him perform over the years and have enjoyed each of his shows.  He will prepare a show based on funny situation and/or places that we have visited during the portion of the cruise he has been on.  He plays the piano while he does his humor, which is mainly done through his song, and singing and he also shows photos of people and places that he is making good fun of.  We really enjoyed the show.

Our night was not yet over as we went to the Casino to use some cash certificates that Keith had won along with the rest of the Team Trivia team for coming in first place on the first half of this segment.  They were only good on the machines so Keith played the Black Jack Machine.  He had won some money the other day and last night he didn’t win any so overall he did win some of the money in cash.  We have not played in the Casino in about ten years so some people were surprised to see us there and after that we met up with one of our friends in the Crystal Cove for a nightcap and we were certainly up later than usual.  With so many people leaving in the ship in a couple of days it was nice to see so many people last evening.

Today was another busy day and was the second to last sea day of the World Cruise before we reach Southampton.

Our day included some of our routine items that we Blog about often such as each of us working out.

Several familiar faces joined the ship yesterday or over the past couple of days and we ran into many of them last evening and today.  This included Cruise Director Gary Hunter who will be the Cruise Director on the next cruise, and Bret Bullock, VP of Crystal Cruises Entertainment who will also be conducting this evening's POPs concert. We also saw Hotel Director Josef Matt who will be on board for a couple of weeks after Josef Lumetsberger goes home in Southampton until the newly hired Hotel Director assumes his new responsibilities. Josef Matt is one of the two Hotel Director's on Symphony.

In addition to all of this, at 10:45 AM we attended a talk given by President and Chief Operating Officer of Crystal Cruises, Edie Rodriquez.  It seemed like yesterday when Edie boarded the ship while we were in Los Angeles in January so she could meet each World Cruiser who was already on board the Serenity for the cruise before the start of the World Cruise and the same day that we got an opportunity to meet with her and the Vice President of Crystal Cruises Public Relations.

Edie spoke about the focus of Crystal Cruises and some items planned for rollout soon.  She also said that the remainder of 2016 itineraries will be published soon and this includes Crystal returning to Alaska for another season there.

Following this talk, there was a Question & Answer Session with not only Edie but also with Thomas Mazloum who is the Executive Vice President of Crystal Cruises.  Keith asked a question about future itineraries and also took a couple of minutes to share our thoughts about how wonderful this World Cruise has been.  Just like a fine wine, Keith noted that this World Cruise was our best ever.

A short while after the session ended, we had lunch at the Crystal Dining Room with Thomas Mazloum.  We have known Thomas for several years and we really appreciate Thomas taking time out of his schedule to meet with the two of us.  We enjoy Thomas’ passion for the industry he works in and always love to hear his thoughts on a range of items both near term and longer term.

This evening we will be having dinner with friends Ken and Lynn Rees.  Ken is also the destination lecturer and we have enjoyed his talks over they years.  After dinner there is the Captain’s Farewell Reception and following the reception we plan to attend the Serenity Pops.  We will post all about this tomorrow.

Last evening before dinner we listened to the World Cruise Chorus sing two songs.  They are comprised of many guests, some from the enrichment group and a couple of entertainers.

Dinner at Silk Road with dear friends Bob and Glo.

We enjoyed many items that Anthony ordered for us and this was one we had never had before.

Keith playing Black Jack.  Glo came into the Casino a little while after we did and played on a machine right next to the one Keith was on.
