DAY 117 - DAY ONE HUNDRED NINE ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

These are the menus from the Crystal Dining Room from last evening.

Before dinner last evening we sat at the Crystal Cove and listened to Pianist John Mentis perform.

Afterwards, we dined at the Prego Specialty Restaurant for the first time since the World Cruise ended.  Costa who is the waiter we have on most evening's is now home on a well deserved holiday.  We dined with Jamie Brown.   We first met Jamie several years ago when she was the Crystal Society Hostess and then a couple of years later she was the on board booking consultant.  For the past few years she has worked at the Los Angeles Headquarters responsible for quality assurance program and also for the vendors who run the on board stores, photo department and salon/spa areas.   It was so nice to get together with Jamie.

We enjoyed a terrific dinner but most importantly we enjoyed conversing with Jamie and getting up to date on so many items.

We each had a small portion of the additional pasta for our appetizer.   It was a penne pasta with lobster.  We both had salads and for our entree we each had the additional seafood entree which was Sea Bream.  For dessert, it was a small bowl of ice cream for Anne Marie and a fruit plate for Anne Marie.

We also enjoyed beautiful views from Prego.

We didn't finish dinner until around 8:30 PM and knowing that we were moving the clock forward by an hour we decided to go back to our room.

Between being tired from the night before when we were up later than usual going to both of those Beatle shows, and moving the clock forward by one hour, Keith slept a little later than normal so he just read and wrote after waking up and then went to the Lido Cafe and skipped the Fitness Center.  After bringing back coffee to the room for Anne Marie, she freshened up and then we walked for an hour inside the ship.  We continue to walk inside as it is cooler in the morning.

We had breakfast in our room as we normally do.  Afterwards, Keith went to the Fitness Center and worked out on the Elliptical Machine.

Since we did not reach Gibraltar until around 1:30 PM, the morning on board the ship was essentially a sea day with several enrichment activities offered.  This did include a talk given by Destination Lectures Professor Roy Willis about the history of Gibraltar and its linkage with Andalucia.  This was followed by talk given by Professor Louis Rene Berse who spoke about the changes in the Middle East and North African with focus on the military, political and social changes.  Keith caught both of these lectures on the television rather than in person.

Anne Marie read, wrote and continued to work on her knitting project and we both spoke with some fellow guests and members of the crew.

Keith decided to try to play Paddle Tennis and as they say what a difference a couple of days make because on the last sea day it was windy and cold and today was sunny and quite warm.  Keith was back in shorts and played with several guests and also the Fitness Director.

Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch at the Lido Cafe and then got ready for our arrival to Gibraltar.  As they say, weather can change quickly and by the time we finished our lunch it was cool and windy.  It was the kind of day that if the sun was out it was warm but when it became cloudy it was cool and windy.  Go figure.

Shortly after we were cleared, we walked around Gibraltar for a few hours.  We have been to Gibraltar several times in the past.  The downtown area is about a fifteen minute walk from the ship to the downtown area. Shortly into our walk we ran into Caryn and Stan and walked for them for about twenty minutes.  This was their first time here so we pointed out the direction we thought they might want to go.  We then walked up and down several side streets.  There was one other cruise ship in port and it is a big travel destination, especially for both the British.  On our way back we ran into Carri and Stew who we know from several World Cruises.  They were not on this year's World Cruise but boarded the ship in Southampton.  We all chatted as we walked together back to the Serenity.

It is not often that we see all of the shipboard photographers together so this time Keith asked them if he could take their photos with the Beautiful Crystal Serenity in the background rather than them taking our photo.

This evening we will be back to the Crystal Dining Room for dinner.
