DAY 120 - DAY ONE HUNDRED TWELVE ON THE CRYSTAL SERENITY

Some additional photos from our visit to Monte Carlo.

One of several statues as we walked the Gardens.

One of the many views that we had of the city from atop the rock.

Before dinner last evening sat at the Crystal Cove and listened to John Mentis play the piano.  We also spoke with several members of the crew.  We spoke with Walter Pietschnig who is the swing Food & Beverage Manager on both the Crystal Symphony and the Crystal Serenity.   Walter will take over the F&B responsibilities at the end of this cruise.

We always kid around with the Lido Deck Stewards who offer us canapés each evening and we always say "thank you and not tonight but maybe next time."  We have not had one canapé since we boarded Crystal Serenity, preferring instead to speak with with those wonderful crew members when they come around and also looking at the delectable canapés.

Last night it was Leibert who offered us a canapé.

We returned to the Crystal Dining Room for dinner last evening.

These were the dinner menus.

Last night was originally to be open seating because some of the tables were not available due to the damage of the rogue wave.  However, wherever possible guests were seated at their regular tables.

We want to complement the Crystal Serenity Crew for the outstanding job they did.  Other than few tables that were not available since the carpeting was drying, the rest of the dining room was in perfect order.  We also wanted to note that it was one window, with three panes of glass that the rogue wave damaged.  Unfortunately, water came into the dining room and caused portions of the carpet to get wet on both sides of the room.  If we didn't hear about the closure of the dining room for breakfast and for lunch we would not have noticed any difference which again says so very much for the hard work and the dedication of the Crystal Serenity Crew.  Although some of the crew were awakened after the damage was done and reported to the Crystal Dining Room they still performed their jobs last evening and did it with true professionalism. Again, kudos to the wonderful crew of the Crystal Serenity.

We sat at our regular table.

We both began our meal with an appetizer.  We normally do not have an appetizer but we have been trying to taste appetizers that are featured on the Modern Cuisine Menu.  We each had the Scallop, Tuna Cevice & Whie Miso Soup.  The appetizer was not only delicious but the presentation was fabulous.

For our next course we each had salads and for our entree we each had the Modern Cuisine Fresh Turbot, Pea Risotto & Poached King Crab dish.  It was also presented very well and was very tasty.

For dessert, we both kept it very simple. Keith had mixed berries and Anne Marie had blueberries.

We had red wine that we had purchased at one of the Chateau's in Bordeaux and some white wine from Austria that is part of the inclusive wine that is served on the ship.

We remained docked in Monte Carlo throughout the night.  Some people ate off the ship.  Our view is that it is nicer to eat on the ship and to enjoy beautiful views of the city.  This is a view from our Verandah.

We slept well as we remained docked at Monte Carlo throughout the night until 6:00 AM when we anchored a short distance from the tender pier.  Another ship, the Seabourn Quest also anchored.  With only a spot for one ship priority is given to any ship that begins or ends a cruise at the port in order to allow for an orderly disembarkation and embarkation of guests and their suitcases.

Keith woke first and he read, wrote, and worked out and then got coffee at the Lido Cafe.  Since we had breakfast an hour earlier than usual as Keith had an early haircut at the Salon we didn't walk before breakfast.  This will be Keith's last and final haircut of the cruise.

While Keith was getting his haircut, Anne Marie walked by herself for an hour as she listened to one of her audio books.

Keith had his hair cut by a stylist that joined the ship about a month ago since the stylist that was cutting Keith's hair for the entire World Cruise went on vacation after our arrival to Southampton.  Although the stylist is new to Crystal she has been cutting hair for several years including having cut hair on two different cruise lines.

Our original plan was to go back into Monte Carlo but during the morning there was a big rain downpour.  When Keith got back to the room we decided to see if Anne Marie could also have her hair done by the same stylist.  She was going to put it off until we got home but the timing seemed great for today.  Unlike the World Cruises where the stylists are busy cutting hair there is a lot less demand for this on shorter cruises and with this being a port day we thought the stylist might have room on her schedule to take Anne Marie.  We were right so Anne Marie had her hair done late morning.

While Anne Marie was having her hair done, Keith worked out at the Fitness Center.  There was a Spin Class at 8:00 AM today which Keith couldn't attend because he was having his haircut.  Ironically, even though Spin Classes on this voyage have been in very high demand and they had to pull names out of a hat to see who would Spin, today no one showed up and that is likely due to either people having tours or also people sleeping in.

We both enjoyed a Salad Entree as we do each day.  The Crystal Dining Room was closed again for breakfast and lunch as work continues on getting everything taken care of due to the water damage from early Saturday morning.

This evening we will be having dinner in our room for the third time this cruise.  We have a couple of movies from the Library that recently came on the ship and we plan to watch one or both of them this evening.

TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY…...

"While we enjoy visiting new places around the world, we also enjoy revisiting towns, cities and even countries that we have been to before.  Discovery is part of travel and there is much to learn regardless of how many times you have visited somewhere around the world."

Keith & Anne Marie
